Black Dagger Brotherhood Fans - Check out BOOK REVIEW The Jackal (Prison Camp #1)

Story line: The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Sinner brings another hot adventure of true love and ultimate sacrifice in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.

The location of the glymera’s notorious prison camp was lost after the raids. When a freak accident provides Nyx clues to where her sister may still be doing time, she becomes determined to find the secret subterranean labyrinth. Embarking on a journey under the earth, she learns a terrible truth—and meets a male who changes everything forever.

The Jackal has been in the camp for so long he cannot recall anything of the freedom he once knew. Trapped by circumstances out of his control, he helps Nyx because he cannot help himself. After she discovers what happened to her sister, getting her back out becomes a deadly mission for them both.

United by a passion they can’t deny, they work together on an escape plan for Nyx—even though their destiny is to be forever apart. And as the Black Dagger Brotherhood is called upon for help, and Rhage discovers he has a half-brother who’s falsely imprisoned, a devious warden plots the deaths of them all…even the Brothers.

Avid reader Chelsea Gouin gives this book

4 out of 5 stars.

What a beautiful book!

The Jackal is the latest book set in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world by best-selling author J.R Ward. The first in the Prison Camp series, this book works well as an introduction for those that haven't dipped into the main BDB series quite yet. And fans of the series will still be delighted with cameos from series regulars.

Nyx believes it is her duty as the oldest to rescue her sister from the prison camp where she's being held wrongly accused. What she didn't expect is to meet the Jackal and have feelings get in the way of her mission. In the underground prison camp, Nyx meets a new cast of characters, including the much teased Wolfen...and secrets are uncovered that rock Nyx's world.

This wasn't a plot-driven book so I can see where some people may be turned off by it, it is very much character driven and I enjoyed it for that reason. The entirety of the book is Nyx breaking into the prison to discover what happened to her sister, and then trying to break out of the prison and save her new friends. I just think characters is JR Ward's strongest suit, however, and that was why this book worked. It was much shorter than her average, this one clocking in at 351 pages for hardcover. And while the Brotherhood was present in the end, it could work as a stand alone. There was enough revelations to lead into even further expanding of Ward's ever-growing world.

Highly recommend for romance readers and vampire lovers everywhere!
